【NCKU】2022 Worldwide Universities Network Virtual Summer School

Introduction

This year, one of our certificate programs— The Certificate Program in Sustainable Development (CPSD) — is cooperating with the Worldwide Universities Network Virtual Summer School and the University of York, the UK to deliver a virtual summer school on the topic of “Act for Sustainability” to aspiring leaders, both postgraduate and undergraduate, from around the world. The United Nations (UN) has established 17 sustainable development goals (SDG) as the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. At this virtual summer school we are offering you nine sessions which correlate to a specific SDG target. We also offer a beginners' Chinese class for early registrants and a virtual tour of our city to enable you to immerse yourself in a different cultural background and the beauty of Tainan, the most ancient and historical city of Taiwan.

Courses Highlights

1. Core Courses (2 credits) 

Under the theme of “Act for Sustainability,” nine sessions will address issues which correlate to specific UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Experts in each field from NCKU and the University of York will host the sessions to address the challenges, opportunities and solutions to sustainable development. The session topics include Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Affordable and Clean Energy, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Life on Land, Health, Clean Water and Sanitation, Responsible Consumption, and Climate Action. Leading academics will offer keynote talks and seminars in a masterclass format, equipping you with the skills necessary to navigate the complex global challenges of today's world. The courses aim to be interactive sessions of project-based activities showcasing the need for students to collaborate, create and solve problems.
*The transferability of credits received is determined by your home university. For those who need credit recognition, please consult the office of academic affairs of your university before your application.

 

2. Workshops

The workshops will enable students from around the world to work together on various hands-on activities, discussions and projects. The emphasis of the workshops is to help students improve their presentation, leadership, project management and proposal writing skills.

 

3. Chinese Class (optional)

The course is offered by the Chinese Language Center of NCKU.

In this program, the course aims to enable students to communicate in basic Chinese, and experience Chinese culture firsthand.

4.Exploring Tainan (0.5 credits, optional)

The course is offered by the Exploring Tainan Office of NCKU.

Students participated previously in this course had the opportunity to choose among the diverse routes purposely arranged by the Office, such as Zeelandia and the Retrospective Anping, Chikan Park Area and Historical Traces and so forth. By joining the summer school, students will get the chance to virtually join this classic NCKU course to experience the rich history of Tainan in a fun-filled day tour.
